VIZEN is a distributor of premium natural slate from one of the largest quarries in Spain, La Cabrera region. We have established our reputation in Latvia and the Baltics with the aim to strongly introduce ourselves with a high quality and competitive price advantage.


We have over 8 years experience in sales and assembly of slate as a ventilated facade material and over a 100 projects or 25 000 m2 both private houses and office buildings. We will take care of logistics, technical support and design suggestions if necessary. Product guidance and support.

What is slate?

  • Slate is a natural stone formed over hundreds of millions of years, built layer by layer. Pure, raw nature that’s incredibly resistant to sun, frost, and moisture. It doesn't fade, it doesn't burn, it doesn't scratch. If you’re looking for something that is both exclusive and lasts a lifetime, slate is the choice.
  • On a facade slate looks premium and expensive. Its biggest strength is how well it matches with other materials—it looks elegant together with wood or glass.
  • Installing slate doesn't demand specific knowledge or years of experience cladding it. Straightforward process that saves you time, nerves, and considerable amount of money.
  • One of the best qualities is its versatility. The material can be easily cut into various shapes, adapting to any architectural detail or design. Whether you want classic rectangles or something more creative, slate lets you play with forms without losing that natural stone texture.
  • We take care of transportation and we take it seriously. Our slate is packed dense and tight to ensure nothing shifts or breaks on its way to your site. You’ll receive the material in the exact same condition it left the warehouse—ready to go straight onto the wall.

FAQ

  • Available size?
5-7 mm / 40cm x 25cm / 40cm x 22cm / 30cm x 20cm / 60cm x 30cm / 50cm x 25cm.Custom sizes are available for larger project volumes.

  • Amount on a facade?
13 slates are required per 1 m2 for a standard horizontal installation using 40x25cm slates. The quantity per m2 changes depending on the size and the installation method. For a 3D installation, 15 slates of the 40x25cm size are required per 1 m2.

  • Amount on a roof?
26 slates are required per 1 m2 for a standard vertical installation using 40x25cm slates; if a different size is chosen, the quantity per m2 will vary. The overlap must be larger than on a facade, as the roof must support both snow in winter and a chimney sweep.

  • Other additional tools / material?
For the facade, we use standard galvanized screws. For the roof, on the other hand, we use copper nails. Each slate is fastened with two nails/screws.
Of the specialized tools, special shears and/or a hammer are required. Underneath, we lay wooden battens. That’s it!

  • Weight?
Weight per m2 depends on the type of cladding chosen for the facade. Assuming a standard horizontal cladding with a tile size of 40x25 cm, the weight per m2 will be approximately 16–18 kg. One tile weighs approximately 1.3 kg, and for this layout, we calculate 13 pieces per m2.

  • Facade installation?
We build a ventilated facade frame, insulate the building, install a windproof membrane, and set up vertical counter-battens to create a ventilation gap. Then, we install horizontal battens. Next, we secure the battens and fasten the facade tiles with screws, using two for each.

  • Roof installation?
On the roof, fastening is done with copper nails only. The number of nails per tile depends on the type of layout used; for a standard 40x25 cm vertical installation, it would be 2–3 nails per tile. The minimum roof pitch for slate installation is 20°. The absolute minimum is 18°.

  • Other ways to use it?
Natural slate is ideal for garden paths, retaining walls, and terraces. Its durability and aesthetics provide weather-resistant solutions that blend elegantly into any natural landscape.
